Taste of Downtown ~ Saturday, June 16

The Taste of Downtown is less than 52 days away. The office is kicking into gear on all that needs to be done to pull off an event of this magnitude. Restaurants are being signed, bands are being considered and the shops will be contacted to see if they would like to participate.

We have had several new bands contact us to see about the possibility of playing for the Taste. There are several new restaurants we will try to persuade to participate and there will be several old restaurants that won’t be with us this year. We don’t always like change, but sometimes change is a good thing. Also, if you know of someone who would like to sponsor this event, there are several levels of opportunities.

Remember, tickets go on sale June 1 with the price remaining at a mere $35.

If you would like to volunteer that night please call Traci to reserve your spot. We are looking for teams of two for two different shifts. The first shift is from 5pm to 7pm and the second shift is from 7pm to 9pm. If you have any questions or would like to sign up, please give me a call at 883-7654.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month Walk/Run

Saturday April 21, 2012 was our 1st Sexual Assault Awareness Month 5k/10k Walk/Run. The Walk/run started at 8am on Saturday, and the weather was amazing. We were very lucky, and the event went off without a hitch! We had 118 participants ranging in ages from 6 years old to 75 years old. This event was a great way to bring awareness to our community about sexual assault.  THANK YOU to all of our WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS, this even would not happen without your help and dedication.

Cell Phone Drive

AEDV provides cell phones to victims through our Court Advocates. Donated phones are able to access 911 and provide victims with needed help. If you have a cell phone you are no longer using, please either drop it off at Classy Seconds or take it to the Court Advocates located on the 3rd floor of the Court House on the corner of Musser and Roop Streets. For more information call 883-7654.

Advocates to End Domestic Violence

AEDV is a private, not-for-profit organization. We were formed in 1979 by two formerly battered women who saw a need for a domestic violence program in Carson City, Nevada. We have grown from a small two-bedroom apartment, to a full service program that operates a 51-bed shelter and provides a wide variety of services designed to protect and support battered women and their children in the community.

Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment where domestic violence victims can re-examine their view of themselves and work towards a violence free future. We accept a woman as she is and encourage her positive growth toward independence and self- sufficiency.
